Texas Substance Abuse Counselor CE Requirements

Continuing Education Requirements (Biennial): LCDC with a Master’s or Advanced Degree: Must complete 24 CE hours every two years, including specific coursework as outlined by board rules. LCDC without a Master’s Degree: Required to complete 40 CE hours every two years. All CE hours must be related to: Substance use disorders and their treatment Chemical dependency counseling (as defined by the KSA dimensions) Mandatory Topics: 3 hours in ethics 6 total hours in HIV, Hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted diseases 3 hours in clinical supervision, if applicable to job duties CPD Classes, a NAADAC-approved provider, is accepted by the Texas LCDC Program. Counselors may complete all 40 required CE hours through CPD Classes’ online coursework, making it a flexible and compliant option for license renewal.
