Connecticut Addiction Counselor Education Requirements: Ethics Training and Distance Learning Limits To renew their credentials, Connecticut Addiction Counselors must complete at least 2 hours of ethics-focused continuing education. For initial certification, the Connecticut Certification Board permits candidates to complete up to 124 of the required 360 hours via approved distance learning platforms such as CPD Classes. Of the total 360 training hours, 240 must be directly related to substance use disorders. Within this category, Connecticut allows the following portions to be fulfilled through distance learning: 60 of 90 hours in counseling theories and techniques 9 of 18 hours in pharmacology 15 of 30 hours in assessment and treatment planning 6 of 12 hours in multicultural counseling, special populations, and minority issues 3 of 6 hours in HIV/AIDS education 6 of 12 hours in professional ethics Additionally, 25 hours of the remaining 120 “general” hours may be completed online. These guidelines give aspiring Connecticut counselors substantial flexibility to meet educational requirements through self-paced, distance learning options like those offered by CPD Classes.
